Running for Higher Education

The 4th Annual Southern Harvest Half Marathon, 5Km and 1.6-mile walk is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2019. This joint effort between Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College-Williamson Campus and the Tug Valley Road Runners Club is a great fundraiser for the college scholarship funds.

According to Rita Roberson, SWVCTC Vice President for Institutional Advancement, this unique fundraiser is a way they can reach out to and help more people interested in continuing their education.

“Many times, scholarship funds are the only source of funding for college students receive. This race event raises money for our Foundation Scholarship account. All money raised goes directly to the scholarships. It is so important to our students, because the more money we raise, the more scholarships students receive,” notes Roberson.

Roberson says participants from across West Virginia and surrounding areas come to the Williamson campus to participate in this race. In turn, more awareness of the effort SWVCTC is making to ensure all students interested in attending college can reach that goal.

FYI:

Participants will meet at the Williamson Campus of SWVCTC on Armory Drive in West Williamson, WV. At 9 a.m. The race begins on the course which flows through both West Virginia and Kentucky.
