48th Annual King Coal Car Show

For years, the King Coal Festival has brought a celebration of Appalachian heritage, culture, and music to Mingo County-- alongside buckets of fun! The King Coal Festival features a variety of vendors and musicians, as well as events. One of the most popular events is the Annual King Coal Festival Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show.

The car show will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Registration will be open from 9am to 12pm, and judging will begin at noon. Registration cost is $20. Awards will be given out at 3pm. Trophies will feature real pieces of coal. A variety of special awards will be available, including Top 25 Cars, and Top 5 motorcycles. A DJ will play oldies from throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.

Michael Brewer, who is over the King Coal Car Show, loves seeing everyone who comes out to this show year after year. “My favorite thing is seeing all the new people who attend, and reconnecting with all the ones who have attended in the past,” he says. “Also, seeing all the great cars that show up. There are some very rare, classic, and original cars in the area that are seldom seen.”

He believes that this event helps to bring together folks throughout the area. “This event helps bring back memories, the respect that coal brought to the area, and camaraderie,” he says. “It helps people to realize that coal, friends, community, and history are what makes this area great.”
