#CheerUpTheLonelyDay

Feeling a little lonely and blue? Need some “friend time”? Here’s a few suggestions of things to do in pairs, groups, and where to make new friends!

Get Moving!

Exercising is much more fun with encouragement from friends! At Crossfit Experior you can get fit while becoming part of the Crossfit family. With classes starting in the early morning through the evening, you’ll find something that fits into your schedule. Find out more about CrossFit Experior in Williamson here! https://www.facebook.com/CrossFitExperior/

Have you noticed the large running community in Williamson? The Tug Valley Road Runners Club hosts monthly races with distances from 1-mile walks through full marathon distances. There’s something for every level of fitness! If you don’t feel ready for a full race day, Tuesday Night Track is the place for you to start. The club meets weekly at the Belfry High School running track to work out, help others join the running world, and have fun! Everyone is welcome! For more information, find the Tug Valley Road Runners Club on Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/TugValleyRoadRunnersClub/

Go Outside!

Sometimes getting outside in the fresh air is just what the doctor ordered. Riding the Hatfield McCoy Trails is safer and lots more fun with friends! Meet up at the Trail 10 parking lot located at 126 West 4th Avenue, behind Wilson Eye Care and set out for a day of adventure!

If you’re more of a water sport kind of person, try kayaking on the Tug River. With access points in various locations along the Tug Fork River, you and your group can set for fun on the river. The Friends of the Tug Fork River Facebook group is a great place to start for information on access points, current river conditions, and upcoming kayak races or group float day.

While we’re talking about the Tug Fork River, get back to simpler times and go fishing! Pack up your fishing gear and snacks and spend some time sitting on the riverbank making memories with family and friends.

Get Involved!

Joining one of the local clubs and organizations is a great way to make new friends while giving back to your community. The Williamson area offers lots of opportunities for you to get involved. Here’s a list of just a few of the local clubs you can find more information on by following them on Facebook:

Williamson Kiwanis

Williamson Rotary Club

Wildwood Garden Club

Mingo-Pike AAUW (American Association of University Women)

GFWC-WV Williamson Woman’s Club

Mingo-Pike Car Club

Tug Valley Road Runners Club

Adopt-a-Friend

If you’re still needing a little cheering up, think about adopting a pet. Lots of wonderful cats and dogs are looking for their forever home. You can give these pets a loving home and chase away those lonely blues. Contact Saving Our Strays animal shelter at 304-236-3310 to find our more about pet adoption.

Reach Out

If you don’t need cheering up, but you know someone that does, reach out! Call up your friends and families and make time to reconnect! There’s lots of great things to do in pairs and groups, even if it’s just going out together for dinner. Have fun!
