Soon summer will be coming to an end, but for now there’s still time to enjoy those warm sunny days! If you’re ready to spend some time on the water the Tug Valley Area Convention and Visitors Bureau will be hosting the event for you later this month. The Tug Fork Regatta will be a two-day event featuring a variety of events and activities for everyone, including a “build-it/float it” contest, a fishing contest, and an outdoor movie!
A Weekend on the Water
For Wes Wilson, the Executive Director of the TV CVB, this kind of event is a bit of a dream come true. “The Tug Valley Area CVB had really wanted to do a water recreation event for a few years now and with the Tug Fork being right in our backyard, this was a no-brainer,” he says.
Over the past few years, many more people have been going out to enjoy the river, and the TV CVB took notice. “We’ve seen significant numbers of folks out enjoying the river, most notably in the last 2-3 years,” Wes says.
They plan to start things off on Friday, August 21, 2020 with a fish fry special and an outdoor movie. On Saturday, August 22nd, the event will continue with a fishing tournament, kayak race, and the build-it/float-it contest, which Wes says he is looking forward to the most. “We have some very crafty people here in the Tug Valley and I truly believe we'll see some very special/unique watercraft. Even if someone doesn't participate in the Regatta, that contest will be something you'll want to see for pure entertainment!”
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, organizers are cautious but optimistic about the Regatta. “It’s a day-to-day thing at this point,” Wes says. However, they are hoping to grow this event over time, and they are hoping to offer an event that will appeal to everyone. “We feel like there will be plenty of options for folks to choose from if they decide to join us for a great weekend on the water!”
