#YoungEntrepreneursDay2023: Lele and Maxie Brock
Since 2020, the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce has hosted Young Entrepreneurs Day, an event that puts under-18 business owners in the area at the forefront and offers them new opportunities. Many kids and teens have participated in that time, and thanks to the success they helped to make possible, the Chamber of Commerce is happy to be hosting the 4th Annual Young Entrepreneurs Day on Saturday, August 5th from 10 am-3pm in the Williamson Field House.
A Blossoming Business
While there will be plenty of new faces, there will also be some returning business owners. Lele and Maxie Brock, the owners of Sprinkles’ Sweets, are one such business! The sisters are both sixteen and about to begin their junior year at New Beginnings Christian School in Williamson. They started baking in 2021, and what started as a hobby became a full fledged business, offering cakes, cookies, and more!
Their experience with YED has helped them learn more about business ownership, particularly the importance of customer service. The girls attended the event in 2022, and they are more than happy to return for the experience and business exposure. “Also, the opportunity for customers to try our products without placing an order,” they say.
The Importance of Meeting Customers
Most of all, they enjoy the chance to interact with customers face to face. “We don’t get to do it often due to our business being run through facebook, “ They say. “We love having the opportunity to get to know our customers and receive feedback on our sweets.” They also enjoy sharing their passion for baking with the community.
When they aren’t baking or going to school, the girls love listening to music, spending time with family and friends, and working on growing their Youth Leadership Association chapter here in Mingo County, which you can read more about here.
If you’d like to check out what the girls have to offer on Facebook before visiting them in person for Young Entrepreneurs Day, check out the Sprinkles Sweets Facebook group. On their business page, Lele and Maxie post menu updates, photos of their delicious creations, and more. Occasionally they offer pop-up shops at The Collective Retail & Artisan Shops in downtown Williamson, so watch for those dates on their FB page, too.
