It's Time to Get Some Candy!

Drive Thru Trunk or Treat

COVID-19 has changed a lot of things throughout 2020. We’ve seen events cancelled, and kept kids home from school, and learned to live with all kinds of changes. Now, as we near the end of October, folks in the area are adapting to make Halloween possible. The folks at Mountain State Harley-Davidson (MSHD), Appalachian Outpost, and the City of Logan have worked together to ensure that kids can still enjoy Halloween at the 2020 Drive Thru Trunk or Treat.

Giving Kids A Safe Place to Celebrate

MSHD hosted their first trunk or treat in 2019 in their business parking lot. Tim “Tiny” Kanier with MSHD describes it as a “huge success.” They decided to do it to give the kids a safe place to go. “We knew the Mingo County and Logan County kids didn’t really have any options unless they went to Chapmanville, or Southside Mall in South Williamson, Kentucky. So it was a no brainer.” The event went even bigger than expected. “We sent staff out 3 times for extra candy, just to be able to give the kids the best we could. It was the most fun and the best turnout of any event we ever had.”

This year, organizers worked hard to support the kids in the community while complying with health regulations. Tim credits Staci Keefer, the event planner, with putting in a lot of the work to make it happen. Staci and Tim reached out to a variety of local businesses to help make Trunk or Treat happen. They also moved the event to Appalachian Outpost in Lyburn, West Virginia to allow plenty of space for a safe trick or treat event.

The event will be drive thru only, and each stopping station is required to have masks and gloves on everyone handing out candy. Tim says businesses participating will get to decorate their station, to make things as fun as possible.

The organizers are excited to give local kids the chance to still have their Halloween this year.

“It’s all about the local kids still getting their day to dress up and enjoy their candy,” Tim says.

Mountain State Harley-Davidson and Appalachian Outpost will host their Drive Thru Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 24th from 5pm-7pm at Appalachian Outpost located in Lyburn, West Virginia.
