Random Acts of Kindness Day

February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day 2021! Everyone wants to be their best self, but sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in the troubles of our own lives and forget to share our best selves with those around us. That’s how Random Acts of Kindness Day got started-- to encourage us to share our best selves with random acts of kindness.

There’s no shortage of little acts of kindness you could share with the world, but if you need some tips, Williamson Forward has some ideas to get started with.

There are plenty of little ways to pass kindness on to a stranger. See someone who did a great job parking or doing their hair? Let them know! If you see someone with a great smile, or you just love that joke they told you in the cashier’s line at the store, let them know! Sometimes the most impactful acts of kindness are the little ones that let you inspire those around you to pass it on.

There are plenty of ways to pass the kindness on to those around you, as well. Maybe you could offer your elderly neighbor a ride to get groceries, or offer to babysit for those busy parents down the street.

You can also pass the kindness on to those in need-- find someone in need in your community, and put together a care package for them, or make a donation to your local homeless or women’s shelter. If you’re a fan of all creatures, furry or feathered, you could also donate to a local animal shelter.

There are also plenty of ways to leave little kindnesses in your wake as you go about your day. If you go to a laundromat, you could leave some spare quarters behind for the person who grabs the dryer after you. If you can’t go without your daily coffee, there’s always the classic “pay it forward” of paying for the person next in line after you order. Maybe clip notes of inspiration to dollar bills or gift cards to tape to doors, leave on counters, or business message boards.

During the current winter storms we’re experiencing, remember to check on your friends, family, and neighbors. Stop by with a hot chocolate or pot of hot soup. Find items to leave in a donation or blessing box such as: gloves, winter hats, thick socks, scarves, coats, blankets, and hand warmers.

However you choose to observe Random Acts of Kindness Day, we hope you find a great way to share your best self with the world!
