Summer + Thanksgiving = Summersgiving

Summersgiving

We’re more than halfway through 2020 and, for many people, it’s the best time of year-- nothing but sunshine, long days, and time in the outdoors. Others might be counting down the days until the holiday season returns and they have an excuse to chow down on their favorite foods and spend time with their families. No matter what camp you fall into, you’ll definitely enjoy Summersgiving, an idea that combines the best of both worlds.

Great Food and Great Friends

Summersgiving was the idea of a man named Robert Solomon, from Norwood, NJ, and the website he created describes how he came up with the idea 11 years ago. He wanted to hold a summer barbecue that celebrated all the things he loved about summer, as well as the delicious food he loved from Thanksgiving. Summersgiving was born of a “love for great food, great drinks, and great friends,” the site says.

If you’re looking to put together a Summersgiving celebration of your own, there are plenty of ways to do it! You could simply get friends together to devour some of your favorite Thanksgiving dishes, including the cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. If you’d like to make the dishes more summer appropriate, why not substitute the traditional turkey and stuffing with turkey burgers, or replace cranberry sauce with cranberry lemonade?

Although Summersgiving is officially celebrated on June 21st, a celebration of friends and family can happen any day! No matter how you decide to celebrate, it’s just one more chance to be thankful for all the best things in life-- close friends and family, and a nice home-cooked meal. If you decide to celebrate with your own Summersgiving, remember to share the pictures with us!
