An Eye for Creativity: Meet Autumn Chapman

An Eye For Creativity

Autumn Chapman says she’s always had “an eye for creativity.” Autumn is an artist and art teacher at Belfry High School, and she’s been passionate about creating since she was a kid. “To be honest, I saw things and had ideas about creating things that other people couldn’t,” she says. “If you ask my mom, she would say I’ve always been interested (in creating). I was always pretending and using my imagination.” In high school, she realized she had a real knack for it.

Encouraging Students to Express Their Feelings

Autumn teaches Art 1 through Art 4 to students at Belfry High School on a daily basis, and she loves the enthusiasm and sense of humor they can bring to the table. “I love teaching high school students because my sarcasm isn’t lost on them, but also because I like that I can still teach them something new and see they get that excited look on their faces when we go over something they have never heard of.” She likes to encourage her students to better the layout of their pieces, notice realistic details from the world around them, and express their feelings and experiences through their medium of choice. She has been teaching for 11 years.

Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, decorating, and spending time with her son-- and, of course, creating art of her own. As an artist, she enjoys working with acrylic and watercolor paints, as well as 35mm photography, ceramics, and 3 dimensional design. She finds her inspiration “everywhere,” she says. “I long to see the world and all it has to offer, so my inspiration comes from that. I also enjoy surrealism and the idea of mass-produced pop art.”

Traveling Art

Autumn also offers art parties! If you're looking for a fun group activity, painting parties are the perfect opportunity to support a local artist while enjoying a unique party experience. You supply the place and the people, Autumn will bring the painting supplies. Check the flyer below for information.
