“I always wanted to open my own gift and apparel shop”
Melisa Ferrell has always enjoyed doing crafts from home, and owning a business was a lifelong dream for her. “When the location that I am in currently became available, I took the leap of faith to finally start my own business,” says Ferrell. In January 2016, her dream came true, and Melisa’s Baskets Galore opened. The store started as a place to display the Longaberger baskets she was selling. By the time the Longaberger company went out of business, Melisa’s Baskets Galore sold much more than baskets, but Melisa chose to keep the name.
Options Galore
When asked about owning a business, Melisa replies: “One of my favorite things is that we have so many items for people to choose.” The store sells everything from knick-knacks and jewelry to women’s clothes and accessories. Customers can browse from town-favorite brands like Simply Southern and Happy Everything. The shop also offers a variety of custom-made items personalized for the customer, such as monogrammed shirts and bags.
Here, You’re Family
Melisa prides herself on the friendly environment she’s created in her shop. For her, it’s important to treat every customer as though they are family. This attitude pays off. Melisa’s Baskets Galore enjoys many regular customers from throughout the region, some from as far away as Logan, WV and Pikeville, KY.
Shop Downtown Again
For Melisa, owning a shop in Williamson is important because it helps to bring shopping back to the town’s downtown area. She’s always looking to expand the things her shop has to offer, in the hopes of drawing in even more customers from the region.
